Why now?
HPE Nonstop systems use SSH and SSL/TLS to secure critical access paths for system-level administration, application-level green-screen access, and Nonstop-to-Nonstop connectivity. But at present, the cryptography on which these protocols depend for security is not post-quantum ready.
That means cryptographically relevant quantum computers (CRQCs) will one day be able to unscramble data flows. In fact, there are already suspicions that state actors may be sweeping up long-lived data with a view to decrypting it when CRQCs appear – in so-called “harvest now decrypt later” (HNDL) attacks.
