With the right investments, they can build solid foundations to drive competitive advantage and sustainable growth. But such investments also carry risk. To better understand how nascent technologies are likely to mature over time, Gartner’s Hype Cycle reports can be an invaluable aid. Three July reports; Hype Cycle for Data Security, 2024^, Hype Cycle for Digital Sovereignty, 2024+ and Hype Cycle for Privacy, 2024\* all recognized comforte as a Sample Vendor, in three areas we think are key: Format-Preserving Encryption (FPE)^\*, Data Security Platforms (DSPs)^+ and Enterprise Key Management (EKM)^ +. The research can deliver invaluable insight into how mature these technologies currently are, and what organizations should do next. ## Setting the scene Data protection must sit front and center of any enterprise technology strategy. Why? Gartner has some compelling stats. - By 2025, 75% of the world’s population will have its personal data covered by modern privacy regulations\* - By 2025, 60% of large organizations will adopt privacy-enhancing technologies (PETs)\* - By 2026, fines due to mismanagement of subject rights will have increased tenfold from 2022 to over $1bn\* In this context, data-centric security technologies offer a compelling way not only to mitigate privacy, cyber and compliance risk, but also to build consumer trust, expand into new markets and accelerate digital transformation projects. They are particularly important in the context of growing hybrid cloud complexity, regulatory data sovereignty requirements, and business demands to optimize data use through AI and analytics. ## Where comforte technologies fit According to Hype Cycle for Data Security, 2024^, DSPs, EKM and FPE sit at different points in the Hype Cycle. As noted in the research: **Data Security Platforms**^ Has a maturity rating of “Adolescent,” market penetration is 5-20% of target audience and the benefit rating is judged to be “High”. **Enterprise Key Management**^ The category sits much further along the Hype Cycle than DSPs. While the latter is in the first “Innovation Trigger” phase, EKM is located right at the end of the cycle, in the “Plateau of Productivity.” The maturity rating is “Mature mainstream”, with a market penetration of over 50% of the target audience. **Format-Preserving Encryption**^ The category is currently located at the bottom of the “Trough of Disillusionment” with a market penetration of 5-20% of the target audience and an “Adolescent” maturity rating. ## What next?
